Hello and welcome to the J'poster Complet channel, the channel that helps seasonal rental owners and seasonal accommodation managers become serene and ultra-profitable entrepreneurs. Today, we're going to talk about channel managers, or should I say, what we've never told you about channel managers. I found it quite interesting to tell you what, in my opinion, is a little behind the scenes of channel managers. A small disclaimer, obviously, in relation to this: I am neither the creator nor the director of a channel manager. I think that better than anyone, it is the channel managers who could tell us about the behind the scenes in their field of activity. I am obviously going to share what my perception is from my little window, in quotes, as a professional channel manager user. But here it is, if you are a channel manager, if you work for a channel manager, and you see this video, well I beg you, do not hesitate to comment on this video to tell me if you agree with it what I share, if you totally disagree, if you find that my vision is fair or not. I will be delighted to read you. So, there you have it. Whoever you are, who works or who created a channel manager, if you're looking at me, let's do this exchange in the comments. It will be a real pleasure.

So, what in my opinion is what we have never been told about channel managers, what you may not know about channel managers, the first point is that in fact, the The concept of channel manager is not at all a very innovative or recent concept. It's a thing as old as time that we've been using in the hotel industry for a really long time. It's something that was created, basically, for hotels, because it made it possible, in fact, to meet the same needs that we have as seasonal rental companies, to be able to centralize availability on all sites, ensure that we only make our prices in one place, and that we can also send automated messages to travelers to improve our relationship with them, and ensure that they have all the information upstream. And in fact, they were the ones who were rather pioneers in this area. We arrived a little later, as seasonal rental companies, but with the same needs. We were also able to capture this tool which we use on a daily basis for our work.

The other point which is important, which I found interesting on this aspect, behind the scenes, is that we, as seasonal rental companies, almost only use the channel manager to manage our activity. , to watch sales, calendar, etc. While a hotel will supplement the use of the channel manager with a tool called the PMS. I should have revised before making this video. I don't know what PMS means anymore, but I'll write it in the comments, because I forgot. But basically, it's the reservation system. It is a system which will combine many things, in particular the entire billing aspect, which will also allow a need that we do not have at all in seasonal rentals, which is to allocate reservations to each room. When you are a hotel, you have 50 rooms, from room 1 to room 50, and you have 26 people who have reserved a standard room. There are not fifty standard rooms, there are only 45, and as a result, you have to assign a person to a room number. So, Mr. Dupont's reservation will be in room 39, Ms. Machin's reservation will be in room 32. That's it. That's also part of the needs of a hotelier, because it's true when booking, we don't reserve the room number. We don't have that need for seasonal rentals at all.

Another point that I found interesting, and this is also a perception seen from my window, maybe someone will say to me: “Élise, but what you think is nonsense. ! » For me, it's a fairly profitable business model, all the same, the channel manager business model. It is a tool that we can call in the field of start-ups “scalable”, that is to say that once the tool is created, suddenly, the fact of having a hundred thousand or ten thousand users does not create a need for an explosion of the team either. That is to say that overall, the team can stay. I'm exaggerating, obviously. But roughly speaking, the team will grow slower than the number of clients. We can definitely make the team grow just a little bit to succeed in assimilating many more clients, doing 10 times the clients, whereas the team has only done 2 times, perhaps. So, in my opinion, it is one of the business models that is part of the profitable business models, very profitable even. It's a bit the same as all the tools that are developed on the internet, in many different areas of activity, and not just seasonal rental. But from the moment we have a digital tool, these are often very scalable business models. What does very scalable mean? This means that obviously, it will attract a lot of fundraising. These are business models that will attract a lot of investors in fundraising, and in my opinion, that also explains why there are so, so many channel managers on the market. I think you will agree with me if you have studied the subject a little. There are really a lot of them, and again, I'm only talking to you about the French-speaking market, because I think that if we extend that to the global market, with everything that's happening in Asia, in the United States, even if a lot of tools are American, in fact, of what we use in French-speaking countries, but still, the mass of tools which directly or indirectly make this channel manager aspect, it is enormous. It's absolutely massive, and for me, that's what actually explains this state of affairs. Because the business model is ultra profitable, and as a result, it can easily attract fundraising to allow something to be developed quickly, and to capture its first customers.

And as a result, it allows me to connect on a point which, I must say, often upsets me. Same, we will discuss it in the comments. Please let me know what you think. I have trouble understanding why some channel managers charge us a percentage. Why am I having trouble understanding? Because for them, in my opinion, whether I have ten reservations or two hundred reservations on my property, I don't have the impression that it costs them resources in addition to the company which provides me with the channel manager. There may be a little bit of drive, that kind of thing, storage and all that, but in my opinion, and it's infinitesimal compared to the billing method offered to us. There are channels that really charge as a percentage of revenue, and I admit that I have trouble understanding that. There is most likely a meaning behind it, but I have difficulty perceiving it. I find that it is a tool that does not necessarily require taking a percentage of my turnover. Which, conversely, on pricing algorithms, I find makes more sense, because obviously, the algorithm runs on each of the dates. So, for me, that makes more sense. So.

Listen, I hope you liked it. I hope that this will have given you a perhaps slightly different perspective on these tools, the channel managers. If you ever ask yourself the question, if you ever say to yourself: “Hey, I could have made a video on that”, it's a question I get asked all the time, well, maybe I'll do a video on that. “Hey, by the way, the channel manager, now that we’re talking about it, Élise, do you think that for just one thing, it makes sense that I have a channel manager? » ; the answer is yes, without hesitation. Even with just a property, just a lodge, just a guest house, get a channel manager. It will really help you, for all the benefits that I mentioned at the beginning of the video. If you're interested, I could make a video on that. I think I've done some in the past, so don't hesitate to watch the playlist called "channel manager" on the YouTube channel. Until then, I invite you to subscribe to the channel by clicking on the bell, so you can find me live on YouTube on Tuesdays. It's an opportunity to chat together, answer your questions, and have a nice time. So. I wish you a very good day, and I'll see you tomorrow for the next video.
